JUST A THOUGHT...#JsT
Today I watched Anurag Basu's STORIES BY RABINDRANATH TAGORE on Epic channel. The episode was based on CHUTTI.As usual there are no words to describe Gurudev's narration and the makers are equally successful in bringing life to the characters. Such a gripping story!
You are instantly connected to the characters, infact you become one with them, such is the feeling. Every emotion, every thought and every action, just took me with it, l was living the story(sigh), the memories they ivoked are all together many different stories themselves.
From the moment you see kids running to catch the hen, then the surrounding, all green and beautiful-water, trees, rocks, you are into the story. When you see Phateek and his brother having slight fight and then the warning ki he will tell Maa , its like someone showed you your childhood, you can feel Phateek's hesitation of going back home and fear of getting beaten. Then when he is asked to hold his ears and do uthak baithak with the counting jo andar tak sunai deni chahiye, reminded me of those days when we had the privelege of similar punishment. The child's mind is filled with curiosity and enthusiasm for something unknown, here the city Calcutta, which is reflected in his quick consent to accompany Mamaji to that place.
His innocent brain is not prepared for the changes and challenges he is about to encounter in this huge city. I felt it so true when Mamaji said seher mein log jyada hote hai aur jagah kam thats what happened with Phateek uski mami aur unke bacche kabhi use apne ghar aur dil mein jagah hi nai de paye.
Every scene was so real ,every emotion so touching! How the new city with its unaccepting nature, paired with the hostile, so called family, turns a cheerful lively, naughty, innocent child into a sad, lifeless body, lacking any enthusiasm; this really took my heart away. While writing to his mother he never breathes a word about his circumstances. The execution of this scene is awesome! Each line written by him is accompanied by a flashback clearly showing otherwise and the tears running down his cheeks...god! I got tears too.
When Kusum( Phateek's Mami) and Shanti( his mother) comes face to face, the scene really is all about emotions with one silently asking what what the mistake of her child? and the other averting her gaze due to guilt. It was one of the best scenes of the story. Then comes the climax when Phateek opens his eyes to see his mother and brother just to close them for ever, to go to an enternal sleep for forever...you are left in tears(sigh)... i cried a lot after watching it. Really its a wonderful story, one of the masterpiece of a master storyteller!
The story shows us the insensitive side of human nature. How we fail to notice someone else's suffering, how we fail to see the effect of our words on some innocent heart. And, by the time we realise our mistakes, everything is lost, nothing is left, except, huge regret and the undying guilt...
